Everything finds all the files and folders on your computer fast. It’s all you need. Try it, you’ll keep it.
Media Player
Windows Media Player lacks the ability to play many common music and video formats and the ever popular VLC player will play just about anything you throw at it.
A nice alternative is Splayer.
Photo Editor
For keeping your pictures organised, basic editing , emailing and uploading to the Web, Picasa is hard to beat.
The GIMP provides more powerful editing tools.
PDF Reader
Do you use Adode Reader? It’s big and cumbersome.
Foxit Reader is a great little free utility that does the job just as well.
Just make sure you uncheck the ‘Agree to Licence terms’ box and you will get the program without yet another useless toolbar cluttering up your computer… but my personal favourite is now PDF exchange viewer.
Anti-virus
Panda Cloud is my favourite free anti-virus – fast, straight forward to install and use, very low on system resources, no updates needed, and very effective.
A very good alternative is Microsoft Security Essentials.
Firewall
Zone Alarm. If you need a free firewall, you can’t do better than this.
Anti-Spyware

Get a Gmail account. it has the best anti-spam in the business and you can download your emails to Outlook Express, Outlook and similar programs as well as check them online

Show Folder Size
Windows Explorer cleverly doesn’t show the size of folders – now it will.
Just install this neat little program, right click on the title bar in ‘details’ view and check ‘Folder Size’.
